Provenance
A stone-cutter's record, kept as carefully as the work.
The practice begins in traditional stone-cutting: hand tools, and the discipline of reading a material before touching it. Bedding planes, undercut shadow, the behavior of translucent calcite under raking light — that the relief work now uses as its subject.
Every work is documented at the bench; tool sequence, cut formulation and finishing materials are recorded with the work; when applicable to request. The Wooden Frame as an essential companion component to each piece of fine art; is structurally reinforced for heavy-duty load capacities. High-grade birch wood panels widely used as a sturdy, archival-quality support for permanent works of art are sealed on both faces with Golden GAC 100 polymer combined with a stone-dust aggregate; Golden Acrylic gessoing to create a ground; establishing the textured, opaque layer to utilize Nova Color professional-grade artist Acrylic Paint; works on paper are 310gsm 100% Hahnemuhle Fine Art Cotton Rag adhered with Lineco Neutral ph archival grade museum quality adhesive; Golden Isolation Coats between each layer of the 3-D build are applied and a Golden MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Archival Spray Varnish solvent-based removable protective topcoat designed for fine art is applied; then and only then is the 3-dimensional Alabaster Stone Relief fixtured to the creation. Each Fine Art piece bears the signature of the creator on the front lower left, a certificate of authenticity is then applied to the back, and a corresponding 1-of-1 digital mint and provenance record is established exclusively on Manifold.
The intention throughout; is conservation-first construction: nothing in any of the finished work is irreversible, and nothing is used that a conservator could not later identify and treat.
The work is represented exclusively by RO Gallery, New York, whose directors hold decades of expertise in placing museum-grade work with collectors and institutions. Independent artist provenance, studio records and condition reporting are maintained at donaldpollica.com; direct correspondence reaches the studio at dpollica@gmail.com.
